Having touch around the green is one of the hardest concepts to grasp for the beginner golfer. One second you are hitting it too soft, the next second you are skulling it across the green. Here is a reliable drill for crisp contact when chipping around the green.
One of the biggest pitfalls for beginners around the green is breaking the wrists and having your club head come before your hands. The ideal chip has the club head slightly behind your hands as seen below:
A drill to create cleaner, crisper contact when chipping around the green starts with rigging your club to prevent you from breaking your wrists.
Find a long straight pole like object and attach it to the end of your club grip. This will prevent you from breaking your wrists when taking your club away and lead to a cleaner ball strike. If you break your wrists, the pole will hit your body, preventing you from fully doing so.
repetition, repetition, repetition! Once you get the form down, you now can shift focus from contact, to actually how hard you are hitting it!
